TRIP ITINERARY

Luxor Sightseeing and Luxor Attractions

Luxor sightseeing day tour starts with your breakfast boxes from the reception of your hotel which you had to order one day before.

Your guide will pick you up with an air-conditioned vehicle to start your full-day tour to the ancient pilgrimage sites of Dendera and Luxor sightseeing.

Dendera temple location and History

Dendera temple is located about 2.5 km south-east of Dendera, 60 kilometers north of Luxor on the west bank of the Nile River, roughly opposite the city of Qena, the capital of the province and governorate of Qena.

The Temple is one of the latest and best-preserved temple complexes in Egypt and it was dedicated to the goddess Hathor, the goddess of motherhood, beauty, sexuality, love, joy, harmony, dance and music was often associated with the planet, Venus.

Ptolemy VIII and Queen Cleopatra II built it, and then later, Roman Emperors continued to decorate it and honor the Goddess Hathor. The Greeks identified the Goddess Hathor as Aphrodite. Dendera was an ancient healing center, comparable to a Greek Asklepion or the Catholic Lourdes.

Dendera Temple excursion

In here you can enjoy your guide explains about the unique scenes of Dendera like the huge carving on the back wall of Cleopatra VII with her son Caesarian, son of Julius Caesar, making offerings to Hathor and all the other deities of Dendera, also you can enjoy one of the most fascinating scenes which decorate the roof chapel dedicated to Osiris or what is known as circular zodiac or The zodiac.

Among the many other structures here are the remains of a 5th-century Christian basilica, an excellent example of early Coptic Church architecture, the sacred Lake which was used for the priest’s ablution and the Mammisi or the birth house (in which was celebrated the birth of Ihy, the son of Horus and Hathor.

Do not miss a feature of Dendera temple not found elsewhere, Crypts. Some underground, some enclosed within the massive double walls of the upper temple with their ceremonial and religious significance as well. After that, you will proceed with your day to the next stop.

Luxor Sightseeing

You will visit the spectacular tombs of the new Empire Pharaohs (Valley of the Kings). 64 tombs including the tomb of the very famous boy-king Tutankhamen were dug totally inside the mountains. Your guide will recommend for you the most beautiful opened 3 tombs for the entrance ticket but two more tombs are an extra charge, Tutankhamen and Seti first.

After the valley of the kings, you will have a quick stop at Colossi of Memnon, the gigantic statues of king Amenhotep the third that was once standing in front of his mortuary temple.

You will take your lunch in a local restaurant then you will cross the Nile with a little motorboat to have your last visit to Karnak temple which is the biggest temple ever known in mankind’s history.

You will need to balance your body, heart, and soul in a harmonically way to listen from your guide about the miracles of the construction of the Karnak temple and the technique they used to cut the hard stones and transporting them through the Nile, The erecting of the obelisks which weight sometimes 280 tons. Stories about different Kings and Queens. The damage of the local people to the temple.

Meanwhile the first Peace Treaty in history between the great Pharaoh Ramses II and the Hittites tribes in Syria, The sphinx avenue and it’s meaning and function. Such pile of information we will never have the time to tell them but we promise to do our best to cover the most important parts of the temple, free time to take some photos then drive back to Hurghada with one stop on the way back to use the toilets or have something to drink.
