Hurghada name

Hurghada name is derived from a plant which was grown naturally in the area called Gardak trees or some believed the word derived from two ancient words

  • Hr or the god Horus , god of protection in the past
  • Ghada means city

So it means the city of the god Horus because it seems he was worshiped in the area in that time.

Hurghada History

  • Hurghada was a very small fishing village till the early 80s when it started to be a popular destination for scuba and beach lovers.
  • 1905 the city started to be settled
  • 1913 oil was discovered
  • 1921 the beginning of exporting the oil
