Das Kloster Wadi Natrun liegt in einer 25 Kilometer langen und 23 Meter unterm Meeresspiegel liegende Senke namens Wadi El Natrun (von dem es seinen Namen erhielt)in der westlichen Wüste, etwa 90 Kilometer nordwestlich von Kairo.

Der Name Wadi El Natrun setzt sich aus dem Wort Wadi (Tal) und El-Natrun, von Natrun aus einer riesigen Menge an Natriumhydroxid, welches aus einer Kette kleiner Seen gewonnen wurde, das in der Antike zu Mumifizierungszwecken und in der Römerzeit für die Glasherstellung verwendet wurde. Heute wird Natrun zum größten Teil in der chemischen Industrie angewendet.
Zu Blütezeit der Christen im vierten und fünften Jahrhundert flohen viele unter dem Druck der römischen Verfolgung in diese Gegend, um sich zu verstecken, somit entstanden viele Einsiedeleien. Mönche bewohnten Höhlen und gründeten Klöster, die heute größtenteils vom Sand verdeckt sind. Von den etwa fünfzig koptischen Klöstern, die ehemals in der Gegend existierten, bestehen nur noch vier, das Kloster der Römer (Deir Al Baramus), das älteste der vier, das Kloster der Syrer oder (Deir Al Surian), das kleinste, das Kloster von St. Bishoi (Deir Anba Bishoi), in dem sich noch der Leichnam von Anba Bishoi befindet, und zuletzt, das Kloster Makarios (Deir Abu Makar).
Deir Al Baramus
Wir starten die Tour Kloster Wadi Natrun ab Kairo mit dem Besuch des Kloster der Römer (Deir Al Baramus), dem ältesten der vier noch erhaltenen Klöster. Es wurde um 335 n. Chr. gegründet, besitzt fünf Kirchen und hat bis heute viel von seinem alten Charakter bewahrt. Das Kloster wurde im Laufe seiner Geschichte mehrmals renoviert und erweitert. Heute verfügt es über eine bemerkenswerte Infrastruktur und beherbergt etwa fünfzig Mönche.
Kloster Deir Anba Bishoi
Danach wurde das Kloster von St. Bishoi (Deir Anba Bishoi) im 4. Jahrhundert n. Chr. vom Heiligen Bishoy dem Großen gegründet dessen Leichnam in der Hauptkirche aufgebahrt wird. Tatsächlich ist der Leichnam des Heiligen Bishoy bis heute unberührt und chemisch weder konserviert noch mumifiziert.
Deir Abu Makar
Weiter geht die Tour zum Kloster Makarios (Deir Abu Makar) fort. Es wurde um 360 n.Chr. vom Heiligen Makarios von Ägypten gegründet, welcher der geistige Vater von mehr als viertausend Mönchen unterschiedlicher Herkunft war. Das Kloster Makarios wird seitdem ununterbrochen von Mönchen bewohnt und beherbergt Relikte vieler Heiliger; Während der Restaurierungsarbeiten wurden zwei Krypten entdeckt, von denen angenommen wird, dass sie Johannes dem Täufer und dem Propheten Elisa gehören.
Hier befand sich der Sitz der koptischen Kirche im 6. Jahrhundert und die Residenz des koptischen Patriarchen von Alexandria, als ägyptische Christen im Jahre 570 die Unabhängigkeit von der Kirche von Konstantinopel aussprachen. Sie ist stolz darauf, das nicht weniger als 30 Patriarchen aus ihren Reihen kamen, mehr als von jedem anderen Kloster in Ägypten.
Deir Al Surian
Wir setzen unsere Tour Kloster Wadi Natrun ab Kairo mit dem Besuch des Kloster der Syrer oder (Deir Al-Surian) welches der Jungfrau Maria geweiht ist und auch ihren Namen trägt, jedoch zumeist als Syrisches Kloster bezeichnet wird, da es hauptsächlich von syrischen Mönchen genutzt wurde, fort. Die Kirche wurde rund um die Höhle aus dem 4. Jahrhundert gebaut, in der der heilige Bishoi residierte und sich mit den Haaren an die Decke band, um sich während des Gebets wach zu halten.

Day Tours and Shore Excursions Cancellation
Cancellation by the clients
Cancellation requests should be sent via fax or emailed to provide the Company with written confirmation that your reservation should be cancelled.
In case you cancel your trip, the following scale of charges will be applied.
- For daily excursions no cancellation fee ( 0 % cancellation fee ) is charged and a full refund is given if the cancellation is received 12 hours before trip starts.
- Less than 12 hours before the trip starts a 50% will be charged as a cancellation fee.
- Additionally, there are cancellation fees on all domestic flights within Egypt. If you cancel a tour at any time, you will be subject to any fees according to airline’s cancellation policy.
Cancellation by Golavita
We reserve the right to cancel a tour at any circumstances but will not cancel a tour less than 45 days before departure, except for Force Majeure, Low Bookings or clients’ failure to pay the final balance, the Company will, upon cancellation, return all monies paid excluding payment for travel insurance or offer an alternative tour of comparable standard. No compensation will be paid to the Client if cancellation is because of Force Majeure or Low Bookings.

Is it allowed for non-Muslims to enter historical mosques in Egypt?
• Non-Catholics can enter the Vatican and non-Christians are welcomed at churches around the world. While not all the holy mosques of Egypt are off-limits to non-Muslims. All the historical mosques are open for the visit of Muslims/non-Muslims alike like Mohamed Ali Mosque within the Citadel, Amr Ibn El Ass mosque, Ibn Tulun mosque, El Refae mosque, Madrassa of Sultan Hassan and Al Azhar mosque. However, there are protocols which must be followed. Always remember a mosque is a place of prayer and worship for Muslims. It is not a museum.
Can I take pictures while visiting the monuments in Egypt
The answer is between yes and no. in most of the sightseeing it is allowed to take photos and make your trip memorable but there are other places in which you can not take even your camera with you for example Egyptian Museum, Valley of the kings, inside any of the Pyramid, inside the tombs in Sakkara, tombs of noblemen in Luxor, valley of the queens in Luxor.
