TRIP ITINERARY

Al Fayoum Oasis

Fayoum oasis is located 90 kilometers to the west of the capital city Cairo. Fayoum oasis houses many important monuments from ancient Egypt, the Ptolemaic era, and the Roman empire era. Fayoum is famous for bird watching, hiking, fishing, and chilling.

After enjoying your breakfast in the hotel, your guide will pick you up with an air-conditioned vehicle to start a full-day tour to one of the major destinations for ecotourism not only in Egypt but also worldwide.

Fayoum or Fayoum Oasis even it is not true Oasis(since it depends on Nile water instead of underground springs and wells) is famous for its rich natural resources, interesting history, and three protected areas including the valley of the Whales which was declared as a UNESCO world heritage site.

Moreover, Fayoum has a unique blend of climate, and geology creates a fascinating landscape in this desert region. After a one-hour driving trip, while enjoying the pleasurable way to El Fayoum with its lush green surroundings for about 90 kilometers on the west-southern part of Cairo, you will start a full-day tour to El Fayoum Pyramids.

Hawara Pyramid

The first stop will be Hawara Pyramid which is about 145 kilometers far from Cairo and 9 kilometers to the East of the city of El Fayoum .the Pyramid of Hawara is the last big pyramid to be built in Egypt. It was constructed by Amenemhat the third and it is believed to be his final resting place.

The core was built out of mud brick, and the outside surface was cased with limestone. Sadly, the outer limestone casing was destroyed by treasure hunters centuries ago The burial chamber is very unique. It is carved from a piece of hard quartzite into a rectangular. The roof of the burial chamber was decorated with quartzite.

Lahun Pyramid

The second stop will be El Lahun Pyramid which is 7 kilometers far from Hawara Pyramid.T he Lahun pyramid, built by King Senusret second II, fourth of the eight kings of the 12th dynasty Lahun Pyramid was built on a high hill and it was constructed out of mud-bricks and coated with limestone. Also, it was the first pyramid to abandon a single northern entrance in favor of two entrances on the south side.

The Pharaoh also established the first known workers’ village located about 800m from the pyramid, on the edge of cultivation. This settlement provided considerable information to archaeologists and Egyptologists on the common lives of Egyptians.

Meidum & Medium Pyramid

The last visit will be Meidum Pyramid which was intended to be a step pyramid, however, at a later stage, the steps were filled with smooth limestone making it a smooth-sided pyramid. Historians believe that the outer sides of the pyramids completely collapsed during Sneferu’s reign.

The Meidum pyramid is now called the fake pyramid because it lost the pyramid shape; all that remains is the core structure of the building. This pyramid represents the first known attempt at the construction of a “true” pyramid. Before the Pyramid at Meidum was built, the only preceding pyramids were all “step” or “layer” pyramids.

Lunch will be taken in a local restaurant then back to the hotel in Cairo or Giza.
