Memphis City the oldest Capital of Egypt
Memphis was once the administrative and religious center of Egypt. Almost nothing remains from ancient Memphis except some monuments from the new kingdom and late period. An open-air museum with an enormous statue of limestone for king Ramesses II which is almost 10 meters long without feet. Moreover, you will see the biggest movable alabaster sphinx statue which weighs more than 80 tons. There also some granite sarcophagus and remains of big granite statue for king Ramesses II.
Saqqara Pyramid – Sakkara Pyramid
Saqqara will be your second stop, the ancient cemetery of Memphis with its step pyramid of Zoser which is considered the first stone structure in the world. It dates back to 2770 B.C.
There you will visit the step pyramid of king Zoser in southern Saqqara and its complex. Then you will visit the pyramid of the kind Titi and the tomb of Mereroka which has perfect scenes for daily life (Extra charge). After that, you will take your lunch in a local restaurant in the Memphis area.
Dahshour Pyramids
Dahshur will be your next stop. Dahshur is one of the royal necropolises located in the desert on the west bank of the Nile approximately 40 kilometers south of Cairo. King Snefru (2680-2656 B.C), the founder of the IV Dynasty, was the first to choose the area to build his royal tomb, as it was close to the capital, Memphis.
Bent Pyramid
He built two pyramids, the first is known like the Dahshur pyramid or bent pyramid (your guide will explain to you why?) which is 101 meters in height and it has two entrances one to the north as normal and the second to its western side.
Red Pyramid
The second pyramid is known as the Red Pyramid (your guide also will explain to you the reason behind the name). It is the first true pyramid successfully completed. Here there is a certain peace and tranquility to the site still. It is most noteworthy for being the site that best demonstrates the change from the “step” pyramid to the “true” pyramid that occurred during the Third and Fourth Dynasties. Dahshur has only recently been opened to the public, having been a military zone until 1996. Later on, your guide will take you back to your hotel for dinner and free time at leisure.
Important Notice
Tomb of Mereroka and the pyramid of the kind Titi are an extra charge.
