TRIP ITINERARY
Things to do in Aswan including a visit to the botanical garden with a traditional Felucca boat and a visit to the Nubian village where you can meet with locals. This program could be done in the morning or afternoon. If you spend your vacation in a hotel then your guide will pick you up from your hotel to the place from which you will start your program on the Nile but if you are in Nile cruise boat, most probably you will reach the place walking.
The program starts with one of the funniest and best things to do in Aswan Felucca riding which is a traditional wooden boat with sails and it depends on the wind. The Felucca will gently sail from the east bank of the Nile to the Botanical gardens or Kitchener Island on the west bank of the Nile. Here in Aswan, you will watch the clear blue water and you will hear the birds singing or watch them while looking for fish like cranes and gulls.
After about 30 minutes, you will reach the Botanical gardens or Kitchener Island which is 650 meters long and 115 meters large and it covers an area of 17 feddans. The Botanical gardens have many different qualities of tropical and subtropical and for this reason, it is considered to be one of the most important centers for botanical researches. The garden has a huge variety of plantations and rare trees. Here you have to walk along the island from the north where is the original entrance till the south passing by all the 27 squares of the island which is similar to a chessboard. In the end, there is the Nubian cafe shop if you like to have a Coffee or smoke Shisha. Our motorboat will be waiting for us by the south exit of the garden to sail to the Nubian village or the live Museum.
One of the things to do in Aswan is The Nubian village on the west bank of the Nile to the south of Aswan in the first cataract. It’s the place where Nubians moved after the building of the high dam, so it is a real village and real Nubians living there with their own traditions and everyday life.
A short journey full of charming scenes like Agha Khan Tomb and Elephantine Island and the pretty houses painted in bright colors. In the Nubian village, you will have so much fun, a lot of things to do and a lot of places to visit. You will start with the school where you will seat in a class and the Nubian teacher will teach you something about Arabic and Nubian numbers and phrases.
Nubian Traditions
Then you will have a gentle short walk through the village roads till you will enter one of the Nubian houses and enjoy the hospitality of these kind people. They will offer a welcome drink while listening to the story of Nubian and their spoken language and their traditions. Later on, you can hold the baby Crocodile that they raise in small basins inside almost all their houses. They also sell small and cheap souvenirs or women there can make Henna tattoo for you. Then back to the motorboat and sail back to your temporary home, the Nile cruise or the hotel.
