Old Cairo tours and Coptic Cairo best religious places

Old Cairo day trips include the most attractive religious places in Cairo or with other words Coptic Cairo. One of the best things to do in Cairo is to visit the holy places which have been visited by the holly family.

Your guide will pick you up from your hotel after breakfast to El Matariya where you will visit the Virgin Mary tree. The place is one of the most important places for the holly family stops. It is a sycamore tree where the virgin Mary used to rest. The tree attracts many pilgrims every Christmas as its the most famous between all the holly trees in Egypt.

Christians believe that the Virgin Mary rested under the tree at this place and spring of water sprouted for her to drink and wash her son’s clothes .from this holy place the Virgin Mary and her son continued their journey to Palestine.

Second Stop Coptic Church El Zeitoun

After that you will head to your next visit, El Zeitoun Church which was built in 1924 A.D as a copy or small figure from Aya Sofia church in Istanbul-Turkey. The church is the place where the Virgin Mary apparition for the first time in Egypt.

Third Stop Old Cairo

Then you will end your tour in the oldest place of Cairo (Masr el Adima) or (Multi-religious compound) as it is called in Egypt. Your tour will include the Hanging Church (El Muallaqa) like suspended in English, the first built-in Basilican style and the most famous Christian Coptic church in Cairo.

Then you will visit the church of St. Sergius (Abu Serga church) where you will see the place where the Virgin Mary and her son rested during their trip to Egypt. It is known that the church is one of the oldest churches in Egypt, dates back to the 5th century. Abu Serga church has the cave where the holly family stayed during their visit to Egypt.

You will have your last stop at Ben Ezra Synagogue or sometimes known as  El-Geniza Synagogue. It is believed that the Synagogue holds a copy of the Old Testament and maybe the place where the baby Moses was found. Later on, you will go back to your hotel in Cairo or Giza.
